African Spinel 7.29 ctLivingston SpinelTapered Pentagon Design by Bob Livingston Faceted by Bob Livingston The Livingston Spinel Spinel and Ruby are very close cousins. Some of the worlds most famous Rubies have been proven to be Spinel. You cannot tell them apart from appearance alone. Spinel like ruby is a good durable stone, excellent for jewelry. Most people have no idea of what a Spinel is. If you add a Mg atom to the ruby AlOx matrix you have spinel. It's a beautiful gemstone. As you can see from Jeff's photo this is an exceptional gemstone. When I was a student of his, Bob Livingston, now deceased, designed and faceted this stone at my request from my piece of rough. At the time I was in no way proficient enough or confident enough to undertake faceting such a lovely piece of rough gemstone. Bob faceted this in 1982. The rough was from Africa. As you can see, this 7.29 ct fine gemstone was faceted by a master. A true masterpiece of fine custom faceting. Ladies and gentlemen I offer to you The Livingston Spinel.
