This stunning Imperial Malaya garnet gemstone was cut from a beautiful, purplish-pink piece of Tanzanian rough. The novel lozenge-shaped design was perfectly suited to the piece. An extra step-cut tier was added to the crown to give the stone additional sparkle and eye-appeal. If one has never seen true Imperial garnet, it is quite unique in color and tone. This stone is lighter than portrayed in the photograph—lighter, yet richer, than fine pink rhodolite, with an almost metallic luster. It displays the wonderful fire for which garnet is known. This gem also exhibits virtually no extinction. There is a bit of a color shift, when going from fluorescent to incandescent/sunlight. A custom setting would likely be required. Note that this is a very large gem for clean, top-color Imperial.
