Vietnamese Spinel 1.10 ctPear SpinelRadiant Barion Pear by Jeff Graham Faceted by David Dawson Weight: 1.10 carats (to the nearest .05 carat) Size: 7.1/5.1mm Clarity: SI+, crystalline inclusions Color: Light purple in fluorescent/incandescent, light purplish-blue in sunlight Treatment: None! Rough: Vietnamese This beautiful stone was cut from a very unusually colored piece of rough, somewhere between lavender and periwinkle in color. Despite being one of the lesser known gemstones, spinel is an ideal material for jewelry applications. It occurs naturally in all colors of the rainbow. Also due to spinel’s relative hardness and excellent luster, fine spinel gemstones are often confused with sapphires and rubies. This particular stone was cut using Jeff Graham’s Radiant Barion Pear design. While this gem does contain several fine crystalline inclusions, the camera exaggerates their appearance. In hand, these are just perceptible to the unaided eye. The true beauty of this stone lies in the exceptional color, which shifts when viewed in sunlight versus indoor conditions. Outdoors, this stone is a beautiful periwinkle blue, with just a hint of purple hue. Indoors, the stone is almost pure purple-lavender. The overall color effect is reminiscent of a Tanzanite. This one must be seen in person to truly appreciate the sparkle! Sold |
