Artist Profile
Peter Regis was born in South Africa, but grew up mostly in the Middle East and Asia. He later travelled extensively, studying in Switzerland, Spain and Taiwan. His first language was Arabic and he speaks Mandarin, Spanish, French and English fluently.
Peter started getting interested in gemstones while working as a diver on seabed diamond recovery off the west coast of South Africa. His next diving job was in the rivers of South West Africa, which led to his focus on colored stones. He enjoyed learning about them so much that the next logical step seemed to be learning to cut. He first started cutting while living in South Africa, where he readily found an interesting variety of cutting material. After moving to the US in the late 80’s, Peter focused mostly on cutting sapphires and tourmalines. He enjoys specializing in collector and investment stones. He particularly enjoys cutting innovative designs.
